What is microblading?
What’s the difference between microblading and a combo brow?
Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that utilizes a hand tool comprised of ultra fine needles that create fine, hair like strokes into the upper layer of the skin, into which pigment is then deposited.
They are two different techniques that will create two different looks. Both are beautiful and natural, but it depends on your desired end result. Microblading is the technique of etching single hair strokes that will give you a very natural effect. A combo brow is the combination of microblading and shading, which gives you more of a "makeup" look and adds dimension to the microbladed hair strokes.
If you’re unsure which technique is best, I always recommend booking a complimentary consultation and we can discuss options!
How long does the procedure take?
How long will it last?
A full microblading procedure typically takes 2.5 hours. The first hour is spent mapping and drawing your brow design. Next, we’ll choose your pigment color and begin the procedure!
The follow up appointment (6-8 weeks after the initial procedure) takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. The touch-up appointment is necessary as each client’s skin heals differently and healed results depend largely on aftercare and skin type. During the touch up we will go over any strokes that may have partially faded, add more strokes, adjust pigment, and darken the pigment if needed.
On average, microblading will last 12-18 months before needing a touch up. There are ways you can help your brows last longer such as protecting your microblading with sunscreen or wearing a hat!
Microblading will naturally fade over time because pigments aren’t implanted into the skin as deep as traditional tattoos. Skincare routine will also affect the longevity of the pigment - clients who tan frequently, use products with AHA’s, Retinol, or Glycolic Acid will experience faster fading as the skin resurfaces at a quicker rate. Each individual’s color retention varies!
*I recommend an annual color boost to keep the pigment and hair strokes fresh!
What do I need to do before the procedure?
Limit alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours prior to the procedure
For 48 hours before the appointment avoid any blood thinners like Advil, Ibufprofen, Vitamin E, etc.
Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face
Do not have any type of chemical peel or laser treatment 2 weeks prior to the procedure
Discontinue Retinol products 3 weeks prior to treatment (these promote cell turnover and can cause pigment to fade faster)
Do not receive Botox 2 weeks prior or after microblading
Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days before the procedure
If you’re using any serums containing AHA’s, glycolic, or salicylic acid, discontinue use for 72 hours before the appointment
